The client report I used to piece together from memory at 11pm

June 2026 ยท 3 min

Every end of month, the same ritual. A client sends a message: "Can you give me an update on what you've been working on?" And the ordeal begins.

I dig through my notes. I check my emails. I look at my sticky notes. I search TeuxDeux for completed tasks - but they're gone. I try to remember what I did the week of the 14th. Then the 21st. I piece it together from memory. I produce a document that looks like a report but is mostly an approximation.

It's 11pm. I send something presentable. But I know it's not quite right.

This moment always bothered me - not because of the late hour, but for what it revealed. I work seriously, I deliver properly, and yet I'm unable to document that work reliably. It's humbling for someone competent.

The solution wasn't to remember better. It was to log as I go, without it becoming a burden.

That's exactly what I tried to build in Odha. Every task logged with @client +2h quietly builds a history. When the client's message arrives, I filter by project, generate the report, add the logo. Two minutes. No stress.

The report is no longer something I produce. It's something that already exists, just waiting to be exported.
